Atheism

So yes, I'm an Atheist. I do take it one step further. I don't believe in anything at all that can't be proven thru experimentation. That includes reality itself, and esp. God or other deities.

I have a theory that the universe itself is essentially "God". I also have a wild belief that the universe has always existed. There was no beginning. There will be no end. Time is a measurement that we created and it cannot be used for everything. Not everything has a beginning and an end.

From the stories I've heard of child abuse - especially baby abuse - I find it difficult to believe God exists - and especially - is a loving one involved in our personal affairs. However, fundamentalists say their god is all that!

God is not the cause of child abuse so you're blaming the wrong one. I don't know why God allows some really awful things to happen to people but He is not the cause of those bad things.

I think the point is that if there is a "God" and they are "merciful", then why would they allow such atrocities to occur? My answer is simple, there is no God.

If you create God to be what you imagine Him to be then He won't live up to your expectations. God's love goes beyond what we think that it is. We don't want God to allow bad things to happen because we have defined love in a human way instead of His way. Does that make sense?

How does everyone feel about the idea - that some - might just use atheism as an excuse for hedonism - lol?

I don't believe in God because I find religion in general to be hypocritical and most who "believe" do so in a blind fashion or believe because they are "supposed to", or feel they must if they want to go to "heaven".

I'm not going to live my life in fear of doing something "bad". I'll live how I want.

I'm a Christian and I don't fear of how I live my life. I believe my sins are forgiven but that doesn't mean I want to sin just because Jesus died for them. I want to do good things because it benefits those around me.

Cool, I can dig that.

I was "taught" that even something as simple as a curse word was a "sin" and to be careful or I'll "burn in hell". :(

Well, free-will denominations believe if you die in sin (called mortal sin in Catholicism) you will be damned. Nonetheless, the Bible has so much talk of pre-destination etc., it puts it into doubt.
